Located in the heart of Vila-real, this unique single-family home blends sustainable architecture with tradition.
What sets this home apart is its groundbreaking bioclimatic approach, the result of an extensive energy study that makes it a benchmark in sustainable architecture. The project stands out for its innovative passive climate control system, which maximizes the use of natural resources through a carefully designed ventilation solution.
This system incorporates strategically placed bidirectional fans that work in conjunction with a system of airtight louvered windows from Graven, unique on the market for their hermetic sealing capability. This combination allows precise control of airflow, optimizing the overall energy efficiency of the home.
This project is the work of renowned architect Eliseu Arrufat, from Lacol Cooperativa in Barcelona, a firm awarded the prestigious Emerging Mies Van Der Rohe Prize 2022, among others.
OCN has led the full construction of this ambitious project, managing everything from the complex demolition phase to the delicate integration of the historic courtyard into the living space. One of the most remarkable elements of the work has been the reconstruction of the stairs using the traditional vaulted brick technique, a craft that only a few master artisans in Spain still preserve.
The result is a home that achieves a perfect balance between innovation and tradition, where technology harmoniously coexists with artisanal construction techniques. This project demonstrates how a contemporary building can be respectfully integrated into the historic fabric of Vila-real, becoming an exceptional example of sustainable architecture that respects its surroundings.
